Sami El Ghousli
Sami El Ghousli (Moroccan singer and composer of contemporary North African music) was born in Oujda Morocco. He began composing Arabic music at the age of ten. He first performed in public aged twelve and four years later he formed his first Raï band. Sami’s first recorded compositions were made in the late nineteen eighties. He then set out on a musical adventure through Europe, travelling through France, Belgium and ending up in Holland. Since settling In the Netherlands Sami has played with such famous artists as Youssou’n Dour, Neneh Cherry, Natacha Atlas, The Wailers, Alpha Blondy and Bob Dylan. In 1996 he joined the band Folk Nass which in 2000 fused with members of the band Safaraï to form the new group Kasba. He has gone on to compose music for both Kasba and various other North African music groups as well as co-writing with the renowned Dutch recording artists Paul de Leeuw, Thé Lau and BlØf.
